The second Ganapati on the Ashtavinayak circuit is Siddhivinayak at Siddhatek. However on our tour, He was the fifth. Situated in Ahmednagar district, it is a small, picturesque temple on the banks of the River Bhima.
Legend has it that, Vishnu fought the demons, Madhu and Kaitabha for over 5000 years but was not able to vanquish them. Shiva reminded him that this was because he had not invoked Ganpati. Vishnu prayed to Ganpati and attained siddhi, which enabled him defeat the demons at this place. The original temple is stated to have been built by Vishnu Himself, but the structure as we see today was built by Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century.
Not very crowded means one can have a darshan quickly and if time permits stay for the aarti too.
The special feature of the idol is that, Siddhivinayak is the only Ashtavinayak whose trunk bends to the right.
One can do a prathakshana outside the temple on an uneven but interesting path with small stalls, domestic animals tied up and even some small dwellings. Midway through this path, we get a view of the connecting bridge and the Bhima flowing lazily below.
Ganpati Bappa Morya!
