God’s will hath no why

The superpower looked down at India.

Not a political, economic or nuclear superpower………………… but the all-pervading, omnipresent superpower, we know by different names but answering to the one name GOD. I like the look of India, God said to himself…. a nation with a rich history, great advancement , amazing democracy and above all a wonderful future ahead. I will need Indians to build up and make Heaven a better place. I will give myself a month, God decided and immediately swung into action.

I will need a seasoned politician to govern here, a renowned strategist, skillful administrator and fiery orator to carry the masses with him, thought God and he zeroed in on Kalaignar Karunanidhi. Well, ultimately he is a politician with strong likes and dislikes, maybe I should add another person, a better statesman, someone who could smoothen ruffled feathers…. this was God’s thought process as he took away Atal Behari Vajpayee. He added a gentle giant who could be impartial, rule-abiding and firm with everyone, in the form of Somnath Chatterjee.

That takes care of the government here, but I would need an independent voice which can act as my eyes and ears and highlight the errors & omissions with human rights as its core — God thought long and hard and went for Kuldip Nayar. God’s PA reminded him that India has made giant strides in the field of sports as well. God nodded and said we must get one of the earliest Indians who stood up and guided India to victories against stronger opponents ……… and so … we lost Ajit Wadekar.

We cannot compromise on defence, given the frequent snipes taken by the dark forces, announced God. Let us bring all the brave Indian soldiers who lay down their lives fighting terrorists, natural calamities & civil disturbances in the harshest climatic conditions of India, said God. The PA nodded agreement. He had a question– ‘God, we need hundreds of common people who can help build up Heaven, where are we going to them from?’.  A hint of a tear appeared in the corner of God’s eyes for a fraction of a second, as He unleashed the rains & floods in Kerala. ‘ I cannot think of a more hard-working and adaptable people than the Mallus, especially in alien lands and the mellifluous Malayalam language will be so soothing here’.

August has been very unkind to India but then, God’s will hath no why.
